Trusting God on the Mountaintop: What the Lord Taught Me Through My Experience On NBC’s The Voice

A few months ago, I was seeing a Broadway show with my wife when I received a phone call from a Los Angeles phone number.
I didn't think twice about who it might be when I picked up the phone. I’d had an experience with The Voice a few years back, but all hopes of that opportunity had finally left my mind. I had moved on.
"Brendan, we would love to invite you back out to Los Angeles to be part of Season 30 of The Voice!"
Suddenly, everything came flooding back to me, especially my prayer that memorable night during my former encounter with the show when I cried out to the Lord. I almost chuckled when I remembered how the Lord spoke to my heart:
"It's not going to go your way. You won't understand now,
but just trust Me."
The timing made so much sense. I wasn't ready three years ago. But the Lord had used that previous experience to strengthen me and build my trust and dependence on Him. He knew I was ready now.
This time, I went through the entire process leading up to the Blind Auditions with ZERO anxiety about the outcome. I then realized that this was always the Lord's plan. Three years ago, during my first experience with The Voice, God showed up for me in one of the most defeated moments of my life.
Now He was reminding me that His way and His timing is always better.

With Me On the Mountaintop
I finally got the blind audition.
I also got the infamous chair turn!
The audition day was a mountaintop moment for me!
I felt the Lord with me on that mountaintop just as much as I felt him with me three years before in the valley.
Through this journey, I've learned that there is so much truth in Romans 8:28.
He is a good Father who will always work things out for our good and His glory as we live according to His purpose.
His plans are always better, and His timing is always right.
I wouldn't change my story. I'm glad The Voice didn't work out for me the first time. When I went back, I had the opportunity to make more friends, share my faith with even more people, and see my prayers come to life.
The Lord is always near. He finds us in all of our moments, no matter how big or small, bad or good. My prayer for all of us is that we would lean on Him even more in the hard moments.
Just as He is with us in the heavens, He is also with us in the depths.
He is always crafting our story – better than we could imagine.

God had been working through this journey from the beginning. Check out last week's blog post, Trusting God in the Valley, to hear more about Brendan's experience.
